March’s Perfect Party: The Rah-Rah-Dash Edition

Given the horrific Houston sports news of late, maybe fans should be rallying around our soccer teams. Yes, the Dash traded away Kealia Ohai, but let’s stay positive: They re-signed Rachel Daly, who led the team last year in goals scored—for the third time, at that. So we’re inviting her to our exclusive par-tay, along with Trey McIntyre, the homegrown choreographer who came up through the Houston Ballet and presents a world-premiere work set to music by David Bowie this month for the company’s Forged in Houston program (Mar 12–22); Anthony Pinn, the Rice professor who is serving as founding director of the university’s brand-new Center for African and African American Studies; Rebecca Masson, the “Sugar Fairy” who is bringing her delectable treats to the Heights with a new location of Fluff Bake Bar; and Curtis Mooney, the 72-year-old Houstonian who’s just graduated from the UH College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences with his second Ph.D. Yes, we’re suckers for septuagenarians pursuing higher education, as well as headline-making animals such as The Bloodthirsty Squirrel, who apparently has managed to terrorize the “entire neighborhood of Cypress”—scary, and perhaps the teeniest bit impressive.
