April’s Perfect Party: Here-Kitty-Kitty Edition

Welcome to this month’s Perfect Party, where we’ve been devouring the international coverage of the “well-fed” tiger discovered inside an abandoned southeast Houston house, by a weed smoker who, along with the 311 dispatcher who took her call, thought she might be hallucinating. Ah, Houston. Tyson, as he was soon named, is doing great at his new home, a Dallas-area ranch for exotic animals. And yes, we’re inviting him to our party, along with a few other interesting, um, cats: Douglas Brinkley, the Rice history prof who has a new book out about the first lunar landing, American Moonshot, and who’s reading this month at Brazos Bookstore (Apr. 8); Abigail Arias, a sweet little girl with a rare form of cancer, whose dream of becoming a police officer recently came true when Freeport Police Chief Ray Garivey swore her in; Trenton Doyle Hancock, the Houston-based artist with a fascinating comic book–style show up at the Menil through May 19; Dale Robertson, the beloved Chron journalist who covered Houston sports (and wine!) for many years but recently retired; and Angie Thomas, author of celebrated YA bestseller The Hate U Give, now also an acclaimed film, who’s coming to town for the Houston Public Library’s Beyond the Page Luncheon (Apr. 24). Rawr!
