November’s Perfect Party: Maybe Cesar-Will-Cook Edition

Houston has a couple of newly minted stars we hope to be seeing more of, even if they didn’t quite win it all during their respective recent runs on TV competitions: singer (and Memorial Hermann nurse) Christina Wells, who performed an incredible rendition of “Natural Woman” on America’s Got Talent, in tribute to Aretha Franklin, and chef (and Pasadena Memorial High School English teacher) Cesar Cano, who made a delectable-looking dish of duck in mole for the MasterChef finale. We’re proud of you, guys! We’re also proud of Alezae Uresti, Ball High School senior and soon-to-be-TSU-freshman, who received a $100,000 scholarship from Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Meanwhile, there are some interesting luminaries coming through town this month, particularly Kevin Kwan, former Clear Laker and author of Crazy Rich Asians—now, of course, a megahit film—in support of The Woodlands’ John Cooper School (Nov 30), and Tituss Burgess, who plays the wonderful, scene-stealing Titus Andromedon on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, speaking at the AIDS Foundation Houston’s World AIDS Day Luncheon (also Nov 30). And finally, if you thought we wouldn’t invite the woman behind Houston’s new, superbly monikered Treacherous Leches bakery, now open at downtown’s Conservatory Food Hall, you were wrong, weren’t ya? Welcome to the party, Griselda Barrios!
