The Astros won their first home game of the season 3-2 against the Oakland Athletics on Friday, April 5 at Minute Maid Park. Collin McHugh pitched six strong innings, allowing only two runs and striking out four batters.

Tony Kemp walked in for a run with an RBI single by Alex Bregman in the third inning, followed by a monster solo home run by Carlos Correa in the fourth inning, his first of the season. Jose Altuve rounded out the Astros scoring in the seventh with a double that plated George Springer, who had singled earlier in the inning.

Prior to the game, the Astros payed tribute to the late President George H.W. Bush and his wife Barbara with commemorative bricks that were presented to members of the Bush family during a pre-game ceremony. The Bushes were lifelong fans of the Astros, and regularly attended games at Minute Maid Park. Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush threw out the ceremonial first pitch. The bricks are inscribed with their names and will be on display in the Champions Walkway area of Minute Maid Park.

The customary Friday Night Fireworks treated the crowd and players to a spectacular light show after the game.
