The Houston Texans hosted the first home game of their 2019 NFL regular season at NRG Stadium against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. After losing a close Monday Night Football game in New Orleans, the home team was ready to defend their turf and secure the season’s first win. The Jaguars were without their starting quarterback Nick Foles, who is out with a broken collarbone. The game turned out to be a defensive battle, with only field goals lighting up the scoreboard for the first three quarters.

Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson picked up 159 yards and a rushing touchdown, aided by nearly 100 rushing yards from running back Carlos Hyde. Houston outside linebacker Whitney Mercilus also contributed with two sacks. The Jaguars’ backup quarterback Gardner Minshew nearly secured a comeback, leading his team down the length of the field in the final minutes of the game. After scoring a late touchdown, Jacksonville decided to attempt a two-point conversion, which ultimately failed, securing the Texans a 13-12 win.
