Houston’s Warbirds Take to the Sky This Sunday

While it’s still a quasi-ghost town on the ground in Houston these days, there sure is a lot of action in the skies. Earlier this week, the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels dazzled us with an amazing flight demonstration in honor of our coronavirus first responders, and this Sunday, you’ll be able to see a high-flying spectacle sure to lift your spirits once more.

More than two dozen warbirds from the Lone Star Flight Museum will take to the skies over Houston for a flyover in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of V.E. Day and the end of World War II, called Flight to the Finish. And you don’t even have to leave your neighborhood to find that perfect view since the show is coming to you.

At 1:45 p.m., the squadron of vintage aircrafts, which includes the historic B-25 “Devil Dog,” P-51 Mustang, and T-6 Texan, will take off from Ellington Airport, making its first stop over San Jacinto Monument at 2 p.m. before following a one-hour, 120-mile flight plan all over the Greater Houston-area. And with a route that flies over downtown Houston, the Energy Corridor, Missouri City, Kemah, and more, you’re sure to have a front row seat for all the action.

Check out the flight plan below and get those cameras ready.

Want to see what the pilots see during a flyover? Watch a livestream of the program on the museum’s Facebook and Instagram pages.

During her tenure in the commonwealth, she walked with ghosts through the state's oldest municipal cemetery, became BFFs with one of the writers behind the Despicable Me franchise, and borderline stalked an Elvis Tribute Artist — but in her defense, she won multiple awards for that story, and he was crowned the world's best ETA. Her work has been picked up by The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and The Associated Press. When Emma's not chasing down a story, taking in a musical, or watching a superhero TV show, she's spending time with her giant, sweet potato fry-stealing cat, Boh (named after Charm City icon Natty Boh), whose raison d'etre is to be a real-life Garfield.
