Nearly Half of Americans Surveyed Say Cost Has Delayed Fertility Care

From left to right: Dr. Timothy Dunn and Dr. Reem Sabouni with Aspire Fertility in Houston

A nationwide survey of 2,000 U.S. adults ages 25–45 who are interested in having children or expanding their families found that 48% have delayed fertility care because of financial concerns. Among those who have considered fertility treatment, 73% said worries about cost have made them reluctant to see a fertility specialist.

“There is a misconception that infertility means IVF, when the reality is that there are a range of treatment options that can be less expensive,” says Dr. Timothy Dunn, a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist at Aspire Fertility in Houston. “An initial consultation can provide important answers while helping patients understand treatment paths and financial resources that may be available.”

Depending on a patient’s circumstances, treatment may range from diagnostic testing and medication to intrauterine insemination, surgery or IVF.

Timing Matters

“Fertility declines with age, particularly for women, and delaying an evaluation may mean losing valuable time for patients already experiencing fertility challenges,” says Dr. Reem Sabouni, a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist at Aspire Fertility Houston.

Aspire Fertility in Houston offers financial resources to help patients navigate costs, including programs through BUNDL Fertility.

BUNDL allows patients to pay one upfront cost covering multiple IVF cycles, with options that may include medications and partial or full refunds if treatment is unsuccessful.

“IVF is rarely a predictable journey — patients may need more than one cycle, treatment protocols can change, or additional frozen embryo transfers may be needed,” says Cheryl Campbell, Director of Operations at BUNDL. “BUNDL helps make IVF more accessible by giving patients more options for managing both the cost and financial uncertainty of treatment.”
