Remember when Rene was trying to be the picture-perfect wife and wore a lot of pink? Independent Rene is all about the kelly green, and I can't really argue with it.

This lady offers Trudy her own charter flight business, but Trudy says no because Gordo wants to focus on making the Apollo 13 crew. Her decision-making is questionable but the do-rag is on point.

And of course, the moon landing gala! Jo and Wally are back, too, although Wally has gotten a job as a television presenter and Jo—boring, beige Jo!—is living the high life in New York City.

Louise, I always knew you had a look this amazing in you. Louise and Alan, after a rocky decade, have settled into a strong marriage, Louise has melted that icy permafrost of a personality and only Alan of all the original Mercury astronauts makes it to the moon.

Rene continues to dazzle in green, and despite the dress and about 10 lbs of hair, she and Scott are separated but remain friends. When Rene is later offered a job hosting a women's television show, she throws out the script about baking pies and talks about birth control, holding up a diaphragm on television. Is this real? Did that really happen? God, I hope so. Rene is my spirit animal.

When Gordo is passed over for a flight because he's not that committed to the program, Trudy decides its time to do her own thing, so she gets a divorce and starts a successful charter flight business.

All the girls, even Jo, get back together to see Trudy off, but only Betty and Annie get bonus points for seeing her off in style. Annie has had therapy to significantly reduce her stutter, and eventually husband John goes on to win a seat in Congress. They didn't always get everything they wanted, the astronaut wives, but at least they always had each other.

Wifeys, is there anything more patriotic than going out with a bang? The super-sized series finale of Astronaut Wives Club had everything I love about this show—talking head interviews that distill each wife’s character arc into a few poignant questions, insanely awesome late 60s fashions, a random gala, girl-gang reunions—and so little of what I do not always love about this show, a.k.a. the plot. We did put a man on the moon, and we saved the astronauts of Apollo 13, but the final voiceover reveals that only 7 of the 30 original astronauts marriages survived. It ain’t easy being an astronaut wife, but at least we got to sit back and enjoy the spectacle.
