When I was in high school, my older sister told our mother that she could not go to college without a pair of Kendra Scott earrings. So, one afternoon the three of us headed to the nearest store and wiled our time away at the color bar, eventually walking away with a pair each of classic Danielle earrings.
Over the next 10-plus years, my love (and collection) of Kendra Scott pieces grew. So, when I received an invite to a press preview for the Texas-based brand’s latest collections, I excitedly said yes.
During the Zoom preview, Scott herself introduced the new summer line, which is beachy, floral, and a refreshing twist on the classic Kendra style.
“This year made me yearn for a vacation,” Scott said. “It made me yearn for the beach.”
And the summer collection—most of which is limited edition and will only be on sale this season—reflects that. Most of the pieces would be the perfect accent to a white, gauzy dress, gushes Scott.
Find mix-medium necklaces and bracelets, plus lots of natural elements like shell, mother of pearl, and sea glass, that are perfect to dress up for your first in-person event in months or to don for your next Instagram snap … if you want all eyes on you, of course.
“If you want to be a wallflower, don’t wear this jewelry,” joked Scott. “If you want a little attention, wear this jewelry.”
A native Austinite, Catherine Wendlandt spent almost six years in the Midwest for college and graduate school at the University of Missouri (MIZ). While there, she talked about Texas and missed queso so much she had to come back.
In school, she worked as a city government reporter and page designer for the Columbia Missourian, a communications intern at a local jazz company, a food editor and later the managing editor at Vox Magazine, and a research assistant for the Association of Health Care Journalists. She's worked in Missouri, Dallas, and Barcelona, Spain, and interned for Houstonia in 2018, when she fell in love with everything about the city, except maybe the traffic and mosquitos.
When she's not at work, you can find Catherine curled up reading a good book, out exploring local parks, taking lots of sunset pictures, and trying to pet every dog she sees (in spite of the allergies).
