This Don’t-Miss Summer Sale Is a Houston Tradition

Fullsizerender n48fmt

Houstonians will stand in line in the summer heat for a surprising number of things. Barbecue from Killen’s. Kolaches from Revival Market. A chance to watch JJ Watt practice. The opportunity to go shopping isn’t usually on the list—unless you’re talking about the annual Sidewalk Sale at à bientôt.

The longevity and popularity of this boutique on River Oaks Boulevard is a testament not only to proprietor Betty Newton’s ability to connect with multiple generations of stylish Houston women, but also of said women’s enduring love of mixing high-end fashion with on-trend costume jewelry and other stylish bargains with a preppy Palm Bach vibe.

And the bargains are at their peak during à bientôt’s annual summer sale, now in its 19th year. The famous Sidewalk Sale—that’s the one people line up for— takes place June 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the sale continuing through June 27. Everything in the store will be on sale, with items discounted up to 80 percent. That’s at least as worthy of a little sweat equity as some barbecue.
