These Are the Worst Airports for Holiday Flight Delays

Brace yourself for holiday travel.

The holidays are now upon us— seriously, the Nutcracker Market is November 14-17; commence panicked meltdown now—and in honor of that festive spirit, let’s now turn our attention to our annual reccurring nightmare: holiday travel.

This year, the research team at CompareCards, an online platform for researching and comparing credit cards, analyzed 10 years of U.S. Department of Transportation holiday flight data (from 2009 to 2018) at the 50 busiest airports in America. Their mission? To find out which ones have the worst track records when it comes to getting to your destination on time.

And, sorry to say, but Houston Hobby is among the top five worst airports for flight delays—one in three of its holiday season flights were delayed. Thankfully, only 1.3 percent of its flights were actually canceled, though.

Other delay-hotspots include Chicago Midway, Chicago O’Hare, Newark, and Denver. Newark is also the airport where you’re most likely to face a cancellation in December.

IAH landed 23rd overall on the list of most delayed holiday flights, and the worst day to fly out of both Houston hubs is reportedly December 27. To read the full report, head right here.
