Celebrate Christmas with Las Posadas in San Antonio

Join the posada on December 19.

Las Posadas is a nine-day Christmas celebration in Mexico and Latin America, centered on the ritual reenactment of Mary and Joseph’s quest to find lodging in Bethlehem. But on December 19, you too can take part in the festivities a little closer to home, in San Antonio.

The city’s acclaimed, abandoned-brewery turned mixed-use space, Pearl, will host its second annual Christmas Posada, an evening of live music, children’s crafts, piñatas, loads of treats such as buñuelos, tamales, and Mexican hot chocolate, and, of course, the ritual reenactment.

The free event takes place at Pearl Park from 6:30 to 9 p.m., hosted by Father David Garcia and Las Misiones, and guests are invited to join the posada pilgrim-style, traveling by candlelight.

Pearl is located due north of downtown San Antonio with 22 acres of shopping and dining, green space, an amphitheater and the third campus of The  Culinary Institute of America, and more cultural destinations along the San Antonio River. It’s also home to Hotel Emma, in case you’re also looking for a place to spend the night (no manger necessary).
