That Girl Lay Lay, premiered Thursday on Nickelodeon.

Houston’s child star, That Girl Lay Lay, has been making waves in the entertainment industry since her early beginnings. The internet sensation would go viral for her Houston-inspired freestyles; helping to amass over a million followers on Instagram, work with artists like Jermaine Dupri and Bun B, and propelled her career forward with an all-around deal with Nickelodeon. Along with the new show, a series of books will be named after the young entertainer.

Lay Lay, born Alaya High, made her on-screen debut last Thursday, where she stars as herself, playing a hype-girl and best friend in a virtual personal affirmation app. The fun pranks and games begin when supporting character Sadie, played by Gabrielle Naveah Green, wishes on a star, after struggling to make friends at school. “When I first learned about my deal with Nickelodeon, I celebrated with doughnuts and Welch’s sparkling grape juice,” Lay Lay told Houstonia in a previous interview. “I was just really excited because I always loved the shows on Nickelodeon.”

On social media, Lay Lay shared her excitement ahead of the show’s debut.  “I’m tooo geeked!!!! Hope everyone tunes in to see all the hard work me and these beautiful castmates of mine put into this show!!!! LETS GO!!!!!”

According to Nickelodeon, That Girl Lay Lay was created and executive produced by David A. Arnold, who also worked on Fuller House. The first season runs for 13 episodes and is the first part of a larger deal that includes Lay Lay music and merchandise.

In the pilot episode, Lay Lay’s sass and spunk are apparent, adding charisma to every scene of the show. From the moment she breaks out of Sadie’s phone, she immediately bursts into a rap. The child star not only adds a Houston flair to the show, but also has a keen skill for comedic relief. Throughout the episode, you’ll find her mentioning how she wants to “prank call a convent” or “eating cheese out of a can.”

To celebrate her television debut, Lay Lay threw a watch party here in Houston. “Had a great time tonight at my tv show premier watch party with my fam and friends!!! Hope y’all enjoyed the show tonight with y’all fam and friends,” she writes on Instagram.

Watch That Girl Lay Lay every Thursday at 6:30 CT, on Nickelodeon.
