After being postponed due to COVID-19, the highly-anticipated Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) will make its return to NRG Stadium in 2022.
RodeoHouston had announced that rap icon Bun B is set to perform on Black Heritage Day in celebration of Black cowboys and their impact on Western culture, according to their website. The emcee, widely known for his career in the rap duo UGK, is no stranger to the HLSR, as he joined Beyoncé on stage for her 2007 performance. He also surprised rodeo fans with a cameo alongside headliner Leon Bridges in 2018.
Bun B's H-Town Takeover will be “the greatest presentation of Houston Hip Hop ever seen,” he wrote on his Instagram. The performance will feature a hefty lineup of Houston’s well-known music figures.
“Celebrating Black Heritage Day with many of our city’s own superstars should make for an epic night for Houstonians and Rodeo fans alike,” says rodeo chief Chris Boleman.
Ahead of the rodeo’s big debut Friday, February 28, HLSR announced the full lineup for Bun B’s highly anticipated Black Heritage Day on March 11.
Bun B will be joined alongside other Houston rap greats like Z-Ro, Slim Thug, Lil Keke, Lil Flip, and Paul Wall. And organizers recently announced that four additional acts will round out the special celebration: Screwed Up Click’s Big Pokey, R&B group H-Town, plus Frankie J and Baby Bash, known for their hit single “Suga Suga,” are also slated to take the stage during Bun B’s rodeo debut.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” shares Bun B. “It deserves a once-in-a-lifetime show.”
