THE "BOSS OF ALL BOSSES" is taking a day to give back to the community through food.
Tuesday, which marks National French Fry Day, Houston-based rapper and city legend Slim Thug will be working at the fast-food chain Checkers on South Post Oak in Houston. French fries that will only cost $1 will be made fresh by the Boss Hogg Outlawz leader.
What started off as a local partnership for the entertainer, soon turned into something bigger. Celebrating National French Fry Day is one of many community activations Slim Thug has managed to be a part of with the fast-food restaurant, as he partnered with Checker’s last year to provide free meals to his community and appeared in a Checker’s commercial.
During his shift at Checker’s, the Houston rapper will take orders, serve french fries, and pass out swag bags, according to a press release.
Having never worked a job outside of entertaining, a day in the life of a fast food worker quickly became a humbling experience for the “King of the Nawf” rapper. He shamefully admits to Houstonia that he’s “never cooked anything but maybe some eggs.”
“Being on the other side of the speaker definitely made me want to be a little easier on people,” Slim says, explaining his experience taking orders. “It’s not as easy as I thought it was.” To share his experience, the Houston emcee posted a video on Instagram of himself cooking in the kitchen. In the caption he writes, “My first job at 40 I think did good.”
After learning the behind-the-scenes process of how things are done at the fast-food chain, Slim hopes that he can apply what he learned in his own kitchen. “It was a learning experience for sure. Hopefully I can do that at the house,” he says.
The popular fast food drive in was recently named #1 Most Craveable Fries by a Technomic Survey, and Slim backs up the claim, mentioning “Checker’s got the best fries in the world. So I have to make sure when I am delivering my fries... I’m delivering them with style and grace.”
After serving hungry guests, Slim Thug alongside Checker’s plan to donate $100,000 to No Kid Hungry, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger in the U.S.
“We wanted to do something food related,” Slim says. “When we found No Kid Hungry, we thought it was the perfect fit. It’s always a blessing to be able to give back like this, engage with people. And at the same time be able to do something for a cause.”
You can find Slim Thug working at Checker’s from 1 p.m to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13, at 13500 S. Post Oak Rd.
