If Houston society proves anything, it’s that fashion and philanthropy are not mutually exclusive. In fact, caring about both is the hallmark of a certain set, like those who stopped by The Webster last week to toast the work of Crime Stoppers of Houston for a champagne reception and trunk show with The Vintage Contessa.

Laure Heriard Dubreuil, designer and founder of The Webster, held court in her Galleria jewel-box boutique full of curated couture goods that feels sort of like one larger-than-life walk-in closet of a River Oaks blueblood. Talk ranged far beyond bags and shoes, though, as Crime Stoppers of Houston CEO Rania Mankarious detailed the nonprofit’s efforts toward preventing and solving serious crime in the area. With regard to recent events like the fatal drive-by shooting of a Lamar High School student, Mankarious’ message was clear: no one in any neighborhood, no matter how prestigious the zip code, is immune from crime.

Donae Chramosta of The Vintage Contessa is Mankarious’ partner-in-(stopping) crime, and the two hosted an episode of their recently launched podcast, Styling Social Justice, from The Webster earlier that day. Heriard Dubreuil was their guest, and the trio discussed Heriard Dubreuil’s own philanthropic work as a global ambassador for Mothers2Mothers, an international nonprofit dedicated to preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV by providing education and support for pregnant women and new mothers living with HIV.

Shoppers listened intently to all three women, and then they got down to business—shopping, of course, but for the cause: A portion of the night’s proceeds benefited Crime Stoppers’ continued public safety efforts in the community.
