How should you do a soft opening? Just look at Neyow’s Creole Cuisine.

The New Orleans import welcomed guests to its new Houston location on Sunday, a vast property at 6356 Richmond Ave. beyond the Loop. And it brought the fun—Mardi Gras Indians, a second line, and a brass band paraded into Neyow’s, but not before a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner.

Once the party got inside, it heated up. The brass band played for about 10 minutes while guests danced throughout the dining room. Lunch was soon served, led by Neyow’s famous chargrilled oysters. Guests can watch the oysters being grilled through a glass window into the scalding-hot kitchen.

Other menu items to expect include crawfish balls, stuffed shrimp, Southern fried chicken, shrimp in a dill cream sauce over angel hair pasta, several kinds of po’boys, grilled redfish, and beignet sticks. Neyow’s is also known for its drink the bow wow, a substantial concoction of rum and fruit punch that can be enhanced by four types of Ciroc vodka. Let me repeat that: a substantial concoction of rum and fruit punch that can be enhanced by four types of Ciroc vodka.

Neyow’s also has a bar, private dining room, and patio that wraps around the front and side of the building.

The restaurant’s grand opening is 11 a.m. Friday.
