Another weekend brings another chance to see beautiful holiday décor up close. An added bonus? Proceeds from the 76th Kappa Kappa Gamma Charitable Foundation Holiday Pilgrimage will benefit local charities.

“This year we celebrate 76 years of shared blessings at what promises to be the best home tour in our history,” says Pilgrimage co-chair Claudia Laswell.

The tour, a tradition since 1941 and the oldest continual event of its kind in the city, will showcase the best in interior, floral, and holiday-inspired design ideas at four local homes—two in River Oaks and two in Tanglewood—from 10–4 p.m. on Friday, December 7 and Saturday, December 8.

Thousands of volunteers have worked to deck the halls over the years, donating their own holiday decorations to the effort in the tour’s early days. Now, professionals are tapped to transform the featured abodes into holiday masterpieces with cutting-edge materials.

“Visitors to the homes will get a peek at the latest styles and décor for the 2018 holiday season, including two homes with interiors by Houston residential and commercial designer Kara Childress,” Pilgrimage co-chair Amber Gray says. Childress, who heads an eponymous design firm, “is known for marrying Old World European with fresh compositions of modern and livable designs for her clients,” Gray adds.

This year’s event also features a special signing in one of the River Oaks homes on Saturday from 1–4 p.m. with renowned New York City-based interior designer Charlotte Moss for her book, Charlotte Moss Entertains, and New Orleans linen expert Jane Scott Hodges for hers, Linens: For Every Room and Occasion.

“Both women are influencers and thought leaders in the design industry, and we are grateful they are sharing their time and energy with us,” Gray says.

The $20 admission grants visitors access to all four homes and will help Kappa continue its decades-long tradition of bolstering local charities—since 1976, the foundation has donated more than $3.6 million to Houston nonprofits both large and small. Past Pilgrimage beneficiaries include The Women’s Home, The Rose, BEAR (Be a Resource for CPS Kids), and more.

“Houstonians have always been extremely supportive of our biennial event, and we’re hoping this year draws even bigger crowds,” Laswell says.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at Bering’s Hardware, Cornelius Nursery, Out of the Box, Back Row Home, The Paisley House, and other local retailers, or at any of the tour homes day-of.
