Last year Walgreens Boots Alliance and VillageMD announced they were partnering up to open at least 600 Village Medical at Walgreens clinics across the country over the next four years. Earlier this month, the duo announced 29 of those locations will open in Houston, Austin, and El Paso this year. By the end of 2021, Houston will have 24 “colocation” clinics.

At these locations, patients will receive high-quality healthcare through an integrated care delivery model that includes housing your physician and pharmacist all in one place, reducing costs and streamlining care regimens.

“With Village Medical primary care services and Walgreens pharmacy services delivered through an integrated care model,” said Clive Fields, VillageMD co-founder and chief medical officer, in a press release, “we’re facilitating regular and direct communication with patients, helping deliver improved health outcomes and affordable care.”

However, the two healthcare companies aren’t stopping there. The collaboration has also made it possible for Village Medical patients to access the between-visit prescription refills, medication substitutions, comprehensive consultations, and all the care they typically receive at Walgreens locations without Village Medical locations.

Walgreens and VillageMD are committed to taking care of all of their patients’ health care needs—needs that have been exacerbated due to Covid-19. Because of this, patients can access these services both in person, at home, and through tele-health visits.

“This strategic partnership between Walgreens and VillageMD demonstrates our continuing commitment to the care and well-being of our patients,” said Jamie Vortherms, Walgreens’s vice president of health care services, in a press release, “and we’re excited to expand our primary care and pharmacy service offerings in Texas.”
