Glitz and glamour were in full effect at the Meru Merus studio launch and fashion show in late September. Designer Umair Khan presented two lines, a prêt-à-porter collection consisting of business casual pieces designed to go from a business meeting seamlessly into cocktail hour, and his couture line featuring chic jumpsuits and ballgowns inspired by the Black Tape Project. The fashion show followed a happy hour that introduced Khan’s new studio and boutique in the Museum District’s Chelsea Market Place.

Khan originally started in the fashion industry as a model, working with Liz Claiborne, Nautica, and Jones New York, among others. He then transitioned into fashion design, earning a degree in fashion design and merchandising and launching Meru Merus in 2014. Since then Khan’s work has been showcased in the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and has become a favorite of local fashionistas.

To end the show, Khan auctioned off two of his dresses and pledged to donate the funds to Hurricane Harvey victims, raising a total of $1,650.
