This watercolor print by Kim Kaiser is among the works donated by local artists available at the silent auction at the A Night for Harvey event on Sunday.

When it comes to representing artists and makers in the Houston community, no local brick and mortar does it quite like Space Montrose—every nook and cranny of Carlos and Leila Peraza’s airy shop on the corner of Westheimer and Dunlavy is stocked with interesting and artful products, the vast majority of them made by Houstonians (and other Texans, too).

So after Harvey hit, no one was better placed to gather the resources of the local maker community and put them to good use. To this end, Space Montrose is hosting a A Night for Harvey on Sunday, Oct. 1, at Avant Garden from 6 to 9 p.m. The event will include the typical merriments—food, tunes spun by DJ Gabriel Garcia and live painting by Houston artist David Maldonado.

But the centerpiece of the event is a silent auction of art pieces donated by the artists themselves—including a woven wall hanging by Ginny Bivens, a Frida Kahlo cross stitch by The Stranded Stitch and a watercolor print by artist Kim Kaiser. All proceeds will be donated to those impacted by Harvey.
