The To-Doux List: Feb 7-9

THE TO-DOUX LIST is lifestyle editor Abby Ledoux’s weekly roundup of pop-ups, markets, and whatever else she feels like doing around Houston each Friday–Sunday (generally). To submit an event for consideration, email details to aledoux@houstoniamag.com.

Lemon Laine Makeovers

When: Sat, Feb 8; by appointment
Where: Lemon Laine, 714 Yale St., Suite 1K
What: Grab your galentine and head to this Heights Mercantile natural beauty and wellness boutique for a fresh (literally) look. In-house makeup artist Zoe Mason will prep your skin with some of the shop’s favorite clean skincare brands (FYI, Goop lives here), then provide a personalized full makeup application. Leave with expert tips and tricks, plus a special gift from Kosas if you spend $100.

Wags & Whiskers Brunch

When: Sat, Feb 8; 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.
Where: Hotel ZaZa Museum District, 5701 Main St.
What: Formerly known as the Best Friends Brunch, this is the social calendar’s furriest, most fabulous afternoon to benefit Animeals, an Interfaith Ministries program that provides free pet food, toys, and preventative vet care for local animals. The program was started more than a decade ago when Interfaith Meals on Wheels volunteers noticed seniors were giving their food to their pets. Since then, it’s helped more than 1,300 dogs and cats in the greater Houston area. This year’s event—themed “On Broadway”—will feature a champagne reception, silent auction, meal, and, at the center of it all, a fabulous pet fashion show. Individual tickets start at $200; table sponsorships also available.

Let’s be honest: At Drag Diva Brunch, they’re all a little Samantha.

Drag Diva Brunch: Sex and the City Edition

When: Sat, Feb 8; noon (doors at 10:30 a.m.)
Where: House of Blues, 1204 Caroline St.
What: For an entirely different kind of brunch, make your way downtown to see fabulous drag queens take on our beloved Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda. This marks the SATC Drag Diva Brunch’s second time on the To-Doux List, so you know it’s that good. At $46, tickets are all-inclusive with access to the show and a full buffet. Will there be someone in a tutu lip-syncing Fergie’s iconic 2006 soundtrack offering “Labels or Love?” We can only hope. Will there at least be mimosas? To quote Mr. Big, abso-f***ing-lutely.

Better than any Bumble date, guaranteed.

Hearts & Hounds

When: Sat, Feb 8; noon–3 p.m.
Where: Metropark Square, 8888 Metropark Dr., Shenandoah
What: Should you find yourself halfway between Spring and Conroe this weekend, consider making a date with a dog. This special Valentine’s Day-themed dog adoption event is part of the park’s monthly event series every second Saturday. This time, Montgomery County Animal Shelter will bring 20 lovable, adotptable pooches to the front lawn, so good luck not pulling a Megan-from-Bridesmaids and loading them all in your van. The shelter is accepting donations of canned dog and cat food and pet/cleaning supplies. Family-friendly activities start at noon and include games, nail art, and free makeovers for kids, plus a V-Day card-making station and—best of all—an interactive dog show.

Last year’s Big Fake Wedding reception at the Meekermark.

The Big Fake Wedding

When: Sun, Feb 9; 5 p.m. (doors at 4:30 p.m.)
Where: The Meekermark, 21156 Karen-Switch Rd., Magnolia
What: How fun are wedding expos? Historically, not very. But what if the entire thing was one big party? That’s what the Big Fake Wedding brings to the table, and honestly, it’s a pretty genius idea. The traveling event is an interactive alternative to a bridal show in the form of—well, a big, fake wedding. Wedding “guests” (aka you, for $27 a pop) experience vendors in action (catering, photography, floral arrangement, bakeries, DJs, etc.) at a cocktail-style dinner and dance-party reception following a real-life local couple’s vow renewal. The event returns to popular “modern-vintage” venue The Meekermark this year with a French Riviera theme. Très romantique.
