KISS, the latest restaurant to debut in Sawyer Yards, offers the big and bold flavors of Cajun cuisine, with handcrafted contemporary cocktails.
The idea for the new restaurant came about nearly two years ago. Thomas Ford, co-owner of the Profit Hospitality Group, and his business partners spent time exploring southern cuisines, and felt like the concept KISS now provides was exactly what Houston was missing.
While most restaurants take time to materialize, Ford said it took less than half a year to put this project together. The co-founder tells Houstonia that “KISS is still a learning experience.” Earlier this year, The Profit Hospitality Group partnered with the Clé Group to actualize this concept.
KISS marks the latest venture for the Clé Group. The local imprint has been a part of award-winning ventures in the past, including Cle Day & Night, Spire and Bisou. “Every day we're learning, we're trying to get better,” Ford said. “ We value our customer's opinions because we just want to be great. We want everything to be great about this place.”
The menu pairs Southern cuisine with Cajun heat and has something for every palette. Featuring yummy selects like fried green tomatoes with cajun rémoulade, crab beignets, and boudin egg rolls and prepared by Frédéric Perrier, Bisou's Master Chef of France. Larger plates include the Caribbean jerk short rib and the "Nola" stuffed chicken.
With a large seating format, KISS is designed for 240 indoors, and includes two private rooms and a 125-person outdoor patio. The set-up is topped off with a showpiece speakeasy bar that is home to an extensive wine list, as well as a beverage program that features classic cocktails and signature handcrafted drinks.
“We actually put hard work into this,” Ford concluded.
KISS is currently open and is located at 2313 Edwards Street, Suite 100 in Washington Heights. For more information, visit https://kissrestaurant.com
