Washington Corridor is Gaining a Famous Atlanta-Based Franchise

Houstonians may not be fans of Atlanta’s baseball team after the 2021 World Series, but their cuisine is a different story. Tin Drum Asian Kitchen, an Atlanta-based pan-Asian restaurant, is opening its first Houston location in the Washington Corridor early next year.

“Our Houston partners Shairoz and Avez Maredia first experienced Tin Drum as college students in Atlanta and are very excited to share the food with their friends and family,” said founder Steve Chan.

As a Hong Kong native, Chan founded the restaurant to celebrate the lesson behind an ancient legend that “hard work alone can make a difference.” According to the website, the establishment’s name is inspired by the story of “Tin Drummer,” who doubled as a newscaster and wake-up caller. He walked around every morning banging a tin drum, gathering people at a cafe to fuel their minds and bodies with news and food.

“As a longtime admirer of Houston, it’s a privilege to bring Tin Drum to this world-class city,” Chan said in a statement. “The food scene here is authentic and genuine. The people are fantastic and inclusive of all walks of life and cuisines.”

Giving patrons the option to explore the “less ordinary,” the menu consists of dishes from Continental Asia, including Chinese, Japanese, Sichuan, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian, and Korean fare. The vast menu has small shareable appetizers such as firecracker cauliflower and chicken lettuce wraps, to larger entree items such as fried chicken sandwiches with Tokyo fries, wok tossed noodles, stir fry, and ramen.

The eatery will double as a grab-and-go mini-mart, where customers can purchase boba tea and Vietnamese coffee, along with snacks, candy, and sauces from different Asian cultures.

Tin Drum Asian Kitchen’s Houston outpost marks the first franchise outside of Atlanta, making it the 11th existing location in the U.S. The Asian kitchen will seat roughly 50 people indoors, with a spacious outdoor patio for additional guests.

Tin Drum Asian Kitchen is slated to open early next year.
