Before the late Anthony Bourdain came to Houston to shoot his Parts Unknown, in 2016, he apparently was completely unaware of the city’s diversity. Like most, he pictured cowboys and gun ranges and nothing much to eat or see. Nevertheless, one of his lasting legacies will be showing the world that our city is way ahead of the curve, especially when it comes to food.

Of course, it will surprise no Houstonian that today, it’s tougher than ever to answer that age-old question—where should we eat at this very moment? This is a restaurant city. We have tens of thousands of eateries that cause us to dance daily ditties of joy as we consider our options: succulent Peking duck, steaming bowls of pho, juicy cheeseburgers, bibimbap, garlic naan, bamba rice, and ceviche among them.

The city’s best places to eat right now are scattered across the dining spectrum, casual and fine, in the Loop and beyond (we see you, Katy), independent and internationally famous, regular restaurants and bars and those in-between spots that lately have us asking, Is this a bar or a restaurant? (Who cares? Just go. Tonight.) And since this is Houston, you know we also brought the beef.
