Houston’s most buzzed-about new hotel combines all things Houston and all things retro under one A-framed roof.
Now open to travelers, The Heights House Hotel at 100 W. Cavalcade, formerly known as the Astro Inn, debuts owners George Giannukos and Jivar Foty’s Rise Construction’s yearlong $3.5-million overhaul, which turned a run-down motel into a hip hangout for travelers and locals alike.
The three-story boutique hotel—a first for the area—is home to 133 rooms and a 7,500-square-foot courtyard with a pool and turf-lined dining and seating area.
In true Houston fashion, there’s a top-notch restaurant and bar inside, Space Cowboy, offering island-inspired cocktails and cuisine by chef Lyle Bento and beverage director Greg Perez until 2 a.m. And, of course, there are murals—two to be exact—from artists Sergio Aguilar and José Kontos from Monterrey, Mexico.
The original lobby was kept the same during the renovations, but it now boasts bright blue and orange accent walls, funky neon signage, and a striking marbled front desk. The elevated mod design carries through to the guest rooms (starting at $100 a night) with trendy globe lighting and mid-century furnishings, sourced from the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas.
Looks aside, the hotel also aims to provide guests with personalized, modern-day hospitality, like two-way SMS messaging available to every guest throughout their stay, directed by General Manager Marrissa Selby (who previously served as Director of Rooms at Hotel ZaZa) and Guest Relations Manager Marlene Shunnarah. They’ll also help set guests up with themed room decorations, discounted tickets to nearby White Oak Music Hall, and even an IV bar (by appointment) after a late night at Space Cowboy or a day in the hot Houston sun.
The team has also kept locals in mind with some of its pre-planned programming. Day-passes to the pool and courtyard are slated to go on sale for $20 in June and the hotel will offer early-week rates to hospitality professionals for staycations on Monday and Tuesday nights.
The Heights House Hotel is currently taking reservations. Say hi to Marcia and Greg (Brady) for us.
