When you think about country music, your mind might transport you to Nashville, Tennessee. And while great music comes from the hometown of country music, Houston is sprouting its own iteration of the genre. This week, New Music highlights Texas country, with new music videos from Jamestown Revival, and Thomas Csorba, plus a debut EP from Houston artist Catterina.

Catterina, Four Twenty One EP

 

Houston transplant Catterina is has arrived with her debut EP, Four Twenty One. The 6-track project weaves together the life experiences that have brought her to this point: a disappointing heartbreak, a brutal winter storm and the ongoing pandemic. She harmonizes in a raspy tune, with a sound that lives somewhere in between a soulful Lou Ridley, and an upbeat Danielle Bradberry. Listen here

Big Pokey featuring Eddie Coke, "Pressure"

 

Originally known for his affiliation with the hip-hop collective Screwed Up Click, Big Pokey made his return to the studio last year with his highly anticipated comeback album Sensei. Today, he's released a new single, titled "Pressure" featuring Houston R&B singer Eddie Coke. Listen here.

Jamestown Revival, "Young Man"

 

While Jamestown Revival is currently touring across the nation, their new album Young Man is garnering serious traction. The duo recently shot the music video for the album's title track on the banks of the Mississippi River, and according to the pair, only needed one take. Listen here

Trae The Truth featuring Eastside Eggroll and Jay'Ton, "Bigger in Texas"

 

Beloved rapper and public figure Trae The Truth has stepped back in the booth ahead of his forthcoming project, Truth Season. The first single on the album, "Bigger In Texas," is a new anthem that reminds everyone how things go in the Lone Star State. Listen here.

Thomas Csorba, "Backroads"

 

Americana singer Thomas Csorba's "Backroads," from his From The Jordan EP, now has an acoustic visual. Csorba offers a mesmerizing and soulful effort to his 2021 single. He's accompanied by artist and co-writer Beau Bedford in the new video. Listen here. 

Kayy Kilo, "Big Energy Freestyle"

 

After releasing her Cutthroat Love Letter project late last year, Kayy Kilo returns with a new freestyle for her fans. In a play on Atlanta rapstress Latto's "Big Energy" song, Kilo utilizes the beat for her own sexy and carefree montage. Listen here.
