The Jonas Brothers put on a rodeo performance in 2024 that earned them the title for most iconic performance thus far.

Since 1932, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has been a beloved tradition for locals and visitors. The live music component officially began in the 1940s at the Sam Houston Coliseum, with “Singing Cowboy” Gene Autry. In 1966, the rodeo’s entertainment moved to the Astrodome, where it welcomed iconic performers such as Elvis Presley and Selena Quintanilla. In 2003, the rodeo moved to its current venues, NRG Stadium and NRG Center. This paved the way for record-breaking attendance and ticket sales, not to mention some of the most fondly remembered performances to date.

Here are the top performers, ranked by attendance numbers, who have made rodeo concert history.

1. Jonas Brothers

2024

This iconic boy band set the latest record two years ago, with a whopping 75,600 people in attendance. As an ode to their past, the brothers played classics during their most recent performance, including “Year 3000,” “Burnin’ Up,” and “Lovebug.” But this literally wasn’t their first rodeo—the Jonas Brothers first took the stage in 2009 and again in 2010.

Los Tigres del Norte is a Houston favorite.

2 & 3. Los Tigres del Norte

2024, 2019

It’s safe to say that this California-based norteño band is a Houston favorite. Los Tigres del Norte made rodeo history twice during Go Tejano Day. In 2019, the band drew 75,586 people, and in 2024, they beat that record by just nine people.

Cardi B is one of the few women to make the list.

4. Cardi B

2019

Houstonians and Cardi B fans were quick on the draw with this one. The rapper’s rodeo show—held on Black Heritage Day in 2019—sold out in just 40 minutes with 75,580 tickets and blasted hits from her debut album, Invasion of Privacy.

Garth Brooks set a new record in 2018.

5. Garth Brooks

2018

Finally, a country star. Garth Brooks, known for hits such as “Friends in Low Places” and “If Tomorrow Never Comes,” set a record in 2018 with a performance that drew 75,577 attendees.

Calibre 50 made history just seven days before Garth Brooks did.

6. Calibre 50

2018

Given Houston’s proximity to Mexico and the city’s large Latino population, it’s no surprise that another Spanish-singing band is on the list. Calibre 50, a regional Mexican band from Sinaloa, made history just seven days before Garth Brooks did. In 2018, on the rodeo’s Go Tejano Day, 75,565 people attended the band’s performance.

If you haven’t caught on yet, Go Tejano Day is a big deal for the Houston Rodeo. In 2017, banda act Banda El Recodo and norteño band Siggno played for 75,557 people. During the performance, Siggno’s front man, Jesse Turner, dedicated a song to his son (also the band’s bassist), who spent several months at TIRR Memorial Hermann following a car crash.

Los Huracanes del Norte brought in a massive crowd in 2016.

9. La Arrolladora Banda El Limón and La Maquinaria Norteña
