Since 2002, Maria Selma, a comfortable spot on Richmond, has flown the flag of authentic Mexican cuisine in the land of Tex-Mex. Corn tortillas are made on site, and the tequila selection now exceeds 100. A few unique specialties that work well are the flautas filled with shredded duck and adobo sauce; La Gringa, marinated then roasted pork with grilled pineapples, onions, and melted cheeses; and the similar El Zarape with carne asada and bell peppers. Not every dish is outstanding, but it’s easy to overlook a few misfires while sipping a top-shelf margarita outside on the large patio.
