B-10 Vietnamese Café Closed
The original Chinatown location in the Metropole Center on Bellaire is an awkward expansion of a hole-in-the-wall café—it’s hard to find the place because the main entrance doesn’t face the street. Meanwhile, the newer location at Westheimer and Hillcroft proves that banh mi stands can be just as shiny and modern as other kinds of sandwich shops. Both locations serve the traditional assortment of Vietnamese sandwiches, as well as some interesting twists. There’s a Korean beef (bulgogi) banh mi, a crawfish sandwich, and a curry-based “sloppy beef” topped with basil leaves and pickled green papaya. Choose the “build your own plates and bowls” option, and you can start with a carb or salad, add your choice of protein, pick some add-ons, toppings, and extras, and then slather on the sauces.
