The Third Ward has more than its fair share of outstanding vegan and vegetarian restaurants, including this bistro in a converted 76-year-old building that’s been everything from a meat market to a gallery. Owner Deepak Doshi and his small team make everything they can from scratch and outsource the rest—the pastries, cookies, and breads come from local bakeries, and the beans, roasted by Greenway Coffee, are put to great use. The real attraction, though, is the vegetarian cuisine. Our choice from the short lunch menu is the Mumbai Streets panini, filled with potato-samosa stuffing, cucumbers, tamarind chutney, and jalapeños. The nightly meal rotates with the days of the week, but we always seek out Doshi House on Tuesdays for the fiery red vegan curry.
