Description

The former Tower Theater overlooking Westheimer is a grand setting for the “vintage Tex-Mex” restaurant El Real, created by Houstonia magazine’s former food editor Robb Walsh along with Bryan Caswell and Bill Floyd of Reef. The menu includes classics of the Tex-Mex genre plus rarely seen preparations from beyond Houston, such as the Alamo City’s puffy tacos, West Texas stacked enchiladas, and the Roosevelt Special combo from Fort Worth. The food is well rendered, especially the enchiladas and fajitas, and hearty, though remember to upgrade your margarita from the ordinary house libation.
