Sugar Land and Missouri City residents have been packing into Lopez since 1978, when Mexican immigrant Rodrigo Lopez and his wife Bertha opened the place as a tiny, one-room restaurant. The family still runs Lopez today, although it’s now located in a space nearly the size of an aircraft hangar. This doesn’t mean there’s not still a wait, though, so sit tight and be patient: the tables move quickly here thanks to the quick, friendly service. Enchiladas, tamales, and the signature tacos rancheros—filled with shredded beef, sautéed onions and tomatoes, and homemade guacamole—are the restaurant’s go-to orders.
