Located in the downtown tunnels, Panini is not only known for the sandwiches its name implies, but also killer breakfast tacos. Tunnel denizens can start the day with the Mexican taco, stuffed with eggs, grilled peppers and cheese, then return at lunch for homemade soups, salads or sandwiches. Interestingly, Panini does not serve the pressed sandwiches we have come to associate with the term, but the owner will explain that in Italy "panini" simply means meat and bread. Nevertheless, the meatball sandwich could compete with any in the city, and roasted lamb and pork sandwiches are other favorites.
