The Petrol Station is a neo-dive pub in the Oak Forest neighborhood that takes its name from the site’s former life as a filling station. Sit outside in the extended biergarten during peak hours if weather permits—there’s very little seating inside, and the noise level can get unbearable. Recommended food choices include unusual burgers like the “Rancor Burger,” a monster of stunning proportions with generous toppings piled so high, it’s nearly impossible to pick this sandwich up without a tomato or the patty itself squirting out of the middle. The beer menu—scrawled on a blackboard above the taps—is cutting-edge, and the eccentric service staff is made up of beer nerds eager to discuss obscure hops varieties and celebrity microbrewers. Lunch on weekends only.
