Description

The original Uchi in Austin earned chef Tyson Cole a James Beard Award for Best Chef Southwest. The Houston location of this Japanese gem resides in the still-recognizable landmark building that once housed Felix Mexican Restaurant. Guests are bowled over by premium sakes, high-quality sushi and fish dishes, and seemingly magical touches, like the “Jar Jar Duck,” which comes in a jar and releases a puff of rosemary smoke when opened. Avoid the madding crowd and save a little cash by going to the genuinely fun happy hour at 5 pm—but get there 15 to 20 minutes ahead of time to help ensure you get a seat at the bar.
