Dacapo's Pastry Cafe, a staple of the Heights for 24 years, is closing on Sept. 29.

Owners Lisa and Trese Biggerstaff announced the news Friday afternoon on Facebook, saying they're "retiring a little early and moving up to Tahlequah, Oklahoma, to be with our family and enjoy God's beautiful country."

Reached by phone later in the afternoon, Trese Biggerstaff revealed that she and Lisa wanted to be close to their father, who was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. "It's a bittersweet thing," said Trese. "It's been a nice 24 years. We've been blessed here."

Trese said the response from the Facebook post was "overwhelming," though it's no surprise. Customers of the homey café on 11th and Studewood rave about its cakes and pies (brownie pecan, key lime among them), plus sandwiches and salads. The twin sisters told their staff about the closing on Thursday, and hope to make everything that's left in the kitchen before they shut the doors for good.
