Trenton Doyle Hancock is best known for using painting to tell the unfolding story of mounds—a group of mythical protagonists that are part plant and part animal. In a wide-ranging interview, the artist walks us through some of the mythical characters that first grabbed his attention as a child, becoming an inspiration for the fantastical creatures and stories he currently explores through his work.
