Some of Houston's most influential people descended on the Doubletree Greenwood Plaza on Jan. 14 for the first annual George Foreman Youth and Community Center (GFYCC) Tribute Dinner. Boxing legend George Foreman is is a global icon; however, his charitable work with the local Houston community has also had a great impact. The GFYCC was founded to offer a safe haven for youth to find mentorship and support. Awards were given to supporters of the center with honorees including, Dr. Adan Rios, Ryan Soroka, Rev. Ray Martin, Alex Vassilakidis, Michael Harris, Patrick Hutton, and George Foreman himself. 
The Foreman family planned the event to tribute their father's life and legacy. In attendance were notables such as Mayor Sylvester Turner and First Lady Ashley Turner, Fox 26 anchor Rita Garcia, Original Houston Texan Player Chester Pitts, radio personalities JJ on the Mic and J Mac, rapper ZRo and manager Big Hev, and the Foreman family. Publicist Sarni Jaye ensured the room was full of family, friends and respected influencers, and Houston Chronicle sports reporter Jenny Dial emceed the evening. The World Boxing Council, Chef Tiffani Janelle, Dawniel Winningham of Wealthy Sisters Network, Kroger, Top Golf, Fogo de Chao, Amy's Ice Cream, Shipley's Do-Nuts and Royal Tey were among the sponsors. Attendees enjoyed a silent auction, dinner and tribute to a champion whose message of perseverance echoed throughout the night: "Never give up before the bell rings."
