Discovery Green rolled out the red carpet for 450 guests under the allée of oak trees for its biennial fundraising event, Gala on the Green presented by H-E-B, on Saturday, February, 6, 2016. The evening raised $991,000 for the dynamic green space that has hosted more than eight million visitors over the last seven years.

Co-chairs Ileana and Michael Treviño and Randa Duncan Williams hosted guests at the elegant black-tie evening on the park grounds across from the George R. Brown Convention Center. Houston’s Divisi Strings entertained cocktail hour guests as they mingled along the Brown Promenade and HESS Patio Deck, in the dazzling glow of Bruce Munro’s Field of Light, the second realization of 4,550 radiant, frosted glass spheres atop slender stems connected by illuminated fiber optic.

The evening’s program was masterfully orchestrated by gala coordinator Wards & Ames Special Events and the design team from A Memorable Event. The gala tent on the Jones Lawn was decorated from top to bottom which included elegant gold table settings adorned with antique vessels filled with garden flowers. The famed Tony’s Catering provided a sumptuous three-course dinner which included Gulf Coast red snapper, Sangiovese braised short ribs, saffron risotto, and a dessert trio of blackberry crostata, coconut crème pie and key lime pie.

Emcee and KPRC Channel 2 reporter and anchor Dominique Sachse welcomed guests and praised chairs Ileana and Michael Treviño and Randa Duncan Williams for chairing the park’s biggest fundraiser, which supports the 600+ free events and activities offered to the public each year.
