The Doyle & Debbie Show

July 12–Sep 8 | Stages Repertory Theatre

Washed-up country star Doyle Mayfield recruits a new singing partner named Debbie in a last-ditch attempt at reclaiming his honky-tonk relevance. Will he make a comeback? Maybe, but the real draw for this folksy sendup will be the original music.

Tickets from $20. 3201 Allen Pkwy. Ste. 101. 713-527-0123. More info and tickets at stagestheatre.com.

The Music of Selena

July 12–13 | Houston Symphony

The Queen of Tejano music has been at front of mind ever since Kacey Musgraves and Cardi B paid tribute to her at this year's rodeo. Now, the Houston Symphony tries its hand with all-new arrangements of the late star's hits. “Basically, I was told to arrange these songs like it was Selena singing,” composer Adam Podd told us. “In my mind, Selena is doing these songs.”

Tickets from $25. Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana St. 713-224-7575. houstonsymphony.org

VegFest 2019

July 13 | Minute Maid Park

Is it possible to live vegan deep in the red-blooded haunch of Texas? Duh! This 7th annual veganpalooza gathers animal rights activists, plenty of food, and, of course, the ever-popular "Ask A Vegan" panel ready to answer any questions you might have about the lifestyle.

Tickets $20. Minute Maid Park, 501 Crawford St. More info and tickets at vegansocietyofpeace.org.

Waugh Bat Colony Boat Tour

July 13 | Allen's Landing

We've done our best to document their post-Harvey travails, but many Houstonians are still unaware of the Mexican free-tailed bats chattering beneath Waugh Drive bridge that spans Buffalo Bayou. At sunset on Saturday, this guided boat tour provides an unmatched vantage point to observe the more than 100,000 flying mammals as the roar into the night sky.

Tickets $30. Allen's Landing, 1001 Commerce St. 713-752-0314. More info and tickets at buffalobayou.org.

Sawyer Yards Art Market

July 13 | Sawyer Yards

The old Riviana Rice silos—now a hub for hundreds of artist studios—will host a special Apollo-themed art market in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Expect a special FotoFest pop-up exhibition, as well as space-themed art vendors.

Free. Sawyer Yards, 2101 Winter St. More info at sawyeryards.com.
