For a moment, AstroWorld returned in the form of a massive, Travis Scott-inspired sandcastle on Galveston's East Beach.

Held last Saturday, August 24, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Sandcastle Competition is an annual mainstay, held every summer since 1986. More than 50 teams composed of architects, designers, and engineers competed in a variety of categories.

This year's top prize—the coveted Golden Bucket—went to Ziegler Cooper/Paradigm Construction, who crafted a monumental sand scene titled "The Litter Mermaid" that faithfully depicts Ariel, Ursula, and King Triton's castle.

Pure skill isn't always the ticket to the trophy stand. The relatively modest Travis Scott masterpiece by Stantec Inc. took home the award for "Best Houston-centric," while another crew took home "Most Epic Fail" for....whatever their mound of sand was supposed to be. Feeling crafty yourself? You currently have a year to concoct the 2020 winner.
