Public art is hailed for its accessibility and its transformative potential. It is a gateway through which community is both reflected and maintained. Last year and in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, Art League Houston (ALH) launched Insta11ations, a series of public art experiences in Houston’s 11 council districts.

The series is comprised of interactive, site-specific artworks that respond to the needs and vision of the community. Participating artists include Sherry Owens & Art Shirer (District A-Greater Inwood), Israel McCloud (District B-Acres Holme), Mich S (District C-The Heights), Erika Blumenfeld (District D-Houston Museum District), Lina Dib (District E-Clear Lake City), Antonius-Tín Bui (District F-Alief), Katrina Moorhead (District G), Violette Blue (District H-Northside Village), Rabéa Ballin (District I-Harrisburg/Manchester), Colby Deal (District J-Mahatma Gandhi District) and Marsha Dorsey-Outlaw (District K-Central Southwest).

Each artist was selected by a committee of curators and public officials throughout the city and was provided with funding and technical support to realize their installations.
