Houstonia Magazine's Community BBQ and Cobbler Competition

We're going whole hog.

By Catherine Matusow April 26, 2013

We at Houstonia have been pretty excited about the new incarnation of D&T Drive Inn (1307 Enid), headed up by Chris Cusack and his Down House partner Joey Treadway. So excited, in fact, that we’re partnering with them for our first annual Houstonia Community BBQ and Cobbler Competition from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 4. And we’re roasting a whole freaking hog for the event.

$25 admission includes a plate of slow-roasted pork, potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw, and—of course—cobbler. We’ll have beer from St. Arnold Brewery and cocktails made with Deep Eddy vodka. And Houstonia’s own Robb Walsh will be holding court, signing copies of his new book, Barbecue Crossroads.

Our four competing chefs are Chris Shine of Franks American Revival, Greg Gatlin of Gatlin's BBQ, Wafi Dinari of The Bird and The Bear, and Bill Leeson of Flying Saucer Pie Shop. Only one will be crowned Cobbler Champion, and it’s up to our guests to decide who it will be.

And remember—you’re pigging out for a good cause. All proceeds benefit Foodways Texas. For tickets, click here
