Last week, we mused on the halal foods at Jones Fried Chicken, one of many restaurants across the US inspired by The Halal Guys. Today comes news that the New York City-based food cart is expanding nationwide—including an outpost in Houston.

Over at Eater Houston, Jakeisha Wilmore reports that The Halal Guys plan to open five franchise units in the Houston area, with at least five more planned in the future. Wilmore notes that the closest thing Houston currently has to The Halal Guys is Gyro King in the Texas Medical Center, which local halal blogger Zain Mohammed agrees is our city's best option until The Halal Guys get here.

"This is probably the closest we will get to The Halal Guys, because this is actually a food cart," Mohammed wrote on a mouthwatering Instagram photo of Gyro King's chicken and rice. "Compared to Jones, this is more filling and delicious!" Mohammed gave the chicken and rice a 9 out of 10—incentive to go and see for yourself what all the fuss over red and white sauce is about.

Now if only we could get NYC to export Wafels & Dinges...
