Each Friday, Gastronaut rounds up the most notable opening and closing of the week.
Table 57, the new restaurant inside the big, Texas-sized H-E-B that just opened this week on San Felipe at Fountainview, will soon have even more company in Tanglewood: Benjy Levit told the Houston Chronicle this week he plans to open a third location of his popular Local Foods venture in the same mixed-use development that houses another homegrown, locally-focused concept, Dish Society. While it doesn't look like this Local Foods will have the same impressive patio as its second location in Upper Kirby, it will feature something that neither that spot nor its original in Rice Village can claim: a wood-burning pizza oven. Look for pizza and more to be served starting this October.
Elsewhere in Rice Village, Bistro Des Amis is closing after seven years, its French fare giving way to southern Italian cuisine by way of Sud Italian Ristorante. New owner Shanon Scott, most recently the longtime manager of Arturo's Uptown Italiano, tells CultureMap he plans to feature lighter, seafood-oriented dishes, but not quite yet; Bistro Des Amis will continue serving its foie gras and French onion soup through February 28.
