This Saturday, Get Your Crawfish Fix at Doc's Motorworks

In lieu of Saint Patrick's Day madness, head to Doc's for a crawfish feast that benefits something other than the bar's bottom line.

There's an adage in the service industry useful for avoiding an absolute horror show on Houston's high holy drinking days: you go to an Irish bar on Cinco de Mayo and you go to a Tex-Mex joint on Saint Patrick's Day. Appending that advice for the upcoming Saint Pat's holiday weekend is this corollary: go to a crawfish boil. Namely, the Saint Patrick's Day crawfish boil hosted by Doc's Motorworks this Saturday, March 14.

Doc's will have what it is claiming to be "an abundance of crawfish," which it will serve by the plate starting at noon. Plates are $7 and you can gorge yourself until they're gone. In addition, the newest bar along the Westheimer curve will be offering all-day drink specials on beer: Miller Lite and Lone Star for $2, with Shiner Bock and Heineken for $1 more, and not a single grossly offensive Irish Car Bomb in sight.

Even better: 20 percent of the proceeds from this Saturday's boil will go to benefit the Houston Humane Society, so settle in for the afternoon and eat until it hurts—which is better than drinking until it hurts, and certainly less likely to get you arrested for a DUI (as Saint Patrick's Day is, not coincidentally, one of HPD's favorite days to arrest drunk drivers). And if you make it to 3 p.m. before tapping out, you'll be rewarded with a performance from Houston's best—and perhaps onliest, judging by their constant gigs around town—zydeco band, the famous Zydeco Dots. If you ask nicely, they may even play "Whiskey in the Jar."
