Reserve 101 has been one of Houston’s top spots to go for whiskey since its opening in 2008, with a deep selection of whiskeys from around the world. The Downtown bar is also noted for its whiskey tasting series, where a representative from a label comes in to offer samples and tasting notes of various expressions of the brand’s whiskey. The latest of these is coming up soon.

On April 25 at 6:30 p.m., Reserve 101 will host a Chivas Regal tasting guided by brand ambassador Miguel Galan. For $20, you can benefit from the education of the seminar and taste four of the higher-end selections from the Chivas label.

While the flagship Chivas Regal 12-year, a classic go-to for blended Scotch drinkers, won’t be served, the four that will be are premium expressions of the brand:

  • The 18-year Gold Signature, an award-winning blend Chivas touts as having “85 unique flavor notes in every drop”
  • Extra, an expression of Chivas Regal blended from whiskeys aged exclusively in sherry casks (the typical Chivas profile uses a blend of sherry and Bourbon casks.)
  • The 25-year is described as “the world’s first luxury whiskey." It’s a blend built on a formula that was first launched in 1909, with the youngest whiskey in the blend aged at least 25 years.
  • The Ultis is described as Chivas’ “ultimate whiskey” and “the essence of who we are." Unlike the other Chivas expressions, which blend single-malt with other grain whiskeys to reach the Chivas flavor profile, this is Chivas first blended malt Scotch; the recipe is a blend of five hand-selected single malts from the Speyside region.

As has become common with Reserve 101 tastings, the proceeds will go to an animal-welfare concern, in this case the Rescued Pets Movement
