López Mexican Restaurant's owners have long had an appetite to assist their community, and a popular trend is helping them do just that. The Lopez family has been filling the Fort Bend area's bellies with traditional Tex-Mex food since 1978. They’ve sponsored Little League teams and tried to give back in anyway they can, Jonathan Lopez says. But when food trucks started getting big attention, a light bulb lit up.

The family decided to launch its very own: the Dulce de López Dessert Truck. For $4, customers can choose from four ice cream flavors including vanilla, chocolate, pecan praline or cookie dough, and toppings like Oreo crumbles and sprinkles, to go along with their churro. What’s more? They’re donating 100 percent of the proceeds to charity. For the next two weeks, #charitablechurros will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The Lopezes lost a family member to leukemia over 10 years ago, making the society the perfect fit for their first partner.

Starting this week, the Dulce de López Dessert Truck will be stationed outside the restaurant on Fridays and Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The truck will also be available for parties and other neighborhood visits.
