Here’s the thing about buying that 5,000-square-foot house: you have to fill it with material goods. For those looking to make some acquisitions, two home furnishing stores recently opened flagship locations inside the Loop. Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams unveiled their 11,000-square-foot store in Highland Village last month, and Janus et Cie debuted a 7,000-square-foot River Oaks showroom in June. Do you really need a $6,879 outdoor chaise that took six weeks to construct using ancient Japanese weaving techniques? How about a $1,700 chair that looks like it was designed for a Klingon warrior, but feels surprisingly comfy? Take the risk of sitting in either of them, and the answer may become dangerously affirmative.
